The Kerry registrations in
Ireland have stopped. It seems that American Kerries are too far away
for them to supervise. Some Kerry breeders sought registration in
Canada. For a
short period of time established breeders can register pure Kerry
foundation stock with American Kerry Cattle Assoc. even if
registrations have previously been neglected.
Percentage Kerries can also be recorded but their offspring will always
be identified by their percentage of purity. Kerries are endangered.
Not a single pure Kerry should be allowed to fall through the cracks.
The Irish registrations were
very difficult and expensive. They required immediate notification each
time a calf was born. So many US Kerry cattle were neglected. Those
cattle need to be grandfathered into registration. Some Kerry
owners disagree and wish to cast out nearly half of the known purebred
Kerry cattle who were not registered in foreign countries. Every
known purebred Kerry from known Kerry breeders must be forgiven. That
is the position of the American Kerry Cattle Assoc. That is how we
differ from the newer organization with a similar name.
American
Kerry Cattle Association was formed as the FIRST association supporting
the Kerry breed in many decades. We are the ONLY association in
the US offering complete registration of Kerry cattle. All services are
FREE OF CHARGE to kerry owners. This association was started
after some kerry owners planned for an association for many years
without success. We understand that those owners have now finally
started an association with a similar name. We'd rather there be
two associations than none as there has been for many years.
